On May 15th, 2019, the Public Health Foundation of India, Amref Health Africa and
Takeda will convene an Asia-Africa Consultation on Achieving UHC in Asia and
Africa by Scaling community-led/local Innovations. This UHC-Global South Perspective,
builds off two other consultations - The Innovations for UHC: India-Africa Conclave’ that was held in
June 2018 with the Government of India that explored ways to leverage the transformational potential
of low cost technological health innovations and new models of healthcare in accelerating UHC in in
India and Africa.
This consultation is to build
1) How Asian countries in the global south are adapting health systems to achieve UHC;
2) How health innovation is increasingly inter-sectoral and encompasses diverse stakeholders and social innovation intermediaries that are building health system capacity;
3) How health innovations led by the private sector and non-state actors can be embedded in UHC models and,
4) What kind of regulation and accountability mechanisms are need to be in place to best leverage sector for UHC.
